As part of a recognition drive to help honour the hard work plant operators have played within the construction industry during the last 12 months, trade magazine UK Plant Operators launched its 2021 Operator of the Year Awards and local man Adam Lopez has reached the finals.
Adam, a plant operator for Hopkins Homes, has worked in construction for 21 years and has been with Hopkins Homes since 2018. He was nominated for the competition and never imagined that he would become a finalist.
He said: “The Local Plant Operator competition highlights the skill and passion of the frontline in the UK construction industry. When I was nominated, I never dreamt that I’d make it out of my heat because it was packed with social media giants – but now I have, I want to go all the way! I’m up against some amazing talent and it’s a real privilege to be taking part.”
To get this far, Adam had to record a short video of himself onsite. His accelerated cab-view film paired with catchy soundtrack Dreamer by Livin’ Joy gained over 9,000 votes within a month as he showcased his skills by carefully manoeuvring supplies around the Hopkins Homes Kings Meadow site in Holt. Adam has become a big personality across LinkedIn for his engaging content, and his honest posts.
The competition runs throughout 2021 with the final winner announced in October. They will walk away with £10,000 cash and a Leica Machine Control System worth £30,000!
