Huge crowds gathered in Cambridge to celebrate the opening of the city’s new Central Park.
The 15-acre park, at Darwin Green, was officially opened by the Mayor of Cambridge, Councillor Dinah Pounds, on Saturday August 23.
It boasts a range of facilities for residents and families to enjoy, including tennis and basketball courts, a sports pavilion, allotments, a play area and multi-use playing fields.
The new park sits between Barratt Homes’ new Franklin Gardens development and Darwin Green estate, delivered together with David Wilson Homes.
Jason Hearn, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “It was fantastic to see so many families and visitors join us to celebrate the opening of the Central Park.
“The turnout really highlights how important this new space will be for the community – a place to come together, stay active, and enjoy the outdoors.”
Festivities ran throughout the afternoon, with families enjoying a bouncy castle, football activities and tennis taster sessions, as well as live music from acoustic duo Soul Front.
Courtesy of the developers, guests also enjoyed free refreshments from local vendors, including sweet treats and ice cream from Scoops of Cambridge and Korean street food from Manna Seoul.
Will Phair, Sales Director at Barratt Homes Eastern Counties, said: “The opening of the Central Park marks an exciting new chapter for Darwin Green, providing a thoughtfully designed green space at the very heart of the development.
“From sports courts and playing fields to walking trails and allotments, it offers something for every lifestyle, and it was wonderful to see the community come together to celebrate its launch.”
