People from across East Anglia have a chance to secure a job in the offshore wind industry thanks to ScottishPower Renewables which is launching a new apprentice recruitment drive for its East Anglia ONE offshore windfarm.
The leading wind energy producer is seeking individuals with a passion for science, maths, engineering, problem-solving and those with good communication skills and a strong team ethic to serve as mechatronics maintenance apprentice technicians on the windfarm being developed 30 miles off the Suffolk coast.
Based atEast Coast College Lowestoft campus, the two long-term apprenticeships are open to those with four GCSEs A-C/4-9 grades in English, Maths and Science. The three-year programme will see the successful applicants receive on the job learning and unique work experience opportunities, which will bring classroom studies, such as programming and mechanical assembly, to life.

The apprentices will be based at East Anglia ONE’s state-of-the-art new operations and maintenance building at Hamilton Dock, Lowestoft; a key part of a £25million investment made by ScottishPower Renewables into the port. The apprentice recruitment drive comes on the back of the offshore wind industry target announced in March to employ 3,000 new apprentices across the industry by 2030.

Officially opened in October 2019, the operations and maintenance base is a hive of activity, serving as the ‘home’ of the East Anglia ONE offshore windfarm, with up to 100 full-time employees, including skilled engineers and technicians, supporting day-to-day operations from the base.

Located 43km off the Suffolk coast, East Anglia ONE is a joint venture between ScottishPower Renewables and Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG). The £2.5 billion project could provide enough clean energy to power the equivalent of more than 630,000 homes annually*. It is the first of four offshore windfarms ScottishPower Renewables is developing in the region.
