A Suffolk concrete company has been named among 77 suppliers in the region to be awarded a share of £330million in contracts for the construction of Sizewell C.

Eastern Concrete Ltd, based in Stowmarket, will provide more than 120,000m3 of concrete during early-stage construction work over the next two years.

The contract has already created eight new jobs in the local area.

Tom Baker, Managing Director of Eastern Concrete, said: “This is the biggest contract I’ve ever secured and the highlight of my career.

“I always wanted to be involved with the construction of Sizewell C, and I’m thrilled we’re able to expand our local workforce.

“By paying local salaries, we’re helping drive a circular economy that benefits other businesses in the area. This is fantastic news for East Suffolk.

“Sizewell have come good on their commitment. They said they would support local businesses and that’s exactly what they’ve done.”

The contract will see a new concrete batching plant built on-site at Sizewell C, with initial deliveries being made from the firm’s existing plant at Leiston’s Eastlands Industrial Estate.

The materials will be used to support non-nuclear construction activities on-site, including roads, park and ride facilities and all temporary buildings required for the project.

The firm are no strangers to the nuclear industry, having previously supplied material for the dry fuel store at Sizewell B in 2014.

Damian Leydon, Site Delivery Director at Sizewell C, added: “It’s fantastic to see this contract creating jobs locally while drawing on the expertise of a regional supplier.

“We’ve pledged to invest £4.4 billion in the East of England, and this partnership clearly demonstrates that commitment.”

Plans for the multi-billion-pound power station received the official go-ahead from the government in July 2025.
