Work on revamping Ipswich Beacon Marina is well underway – with project organisers saying it’s on track for a summer completion.

The project will see 14 new, fully-serviced berths created on the northern side of the marina (formerly Neptune Marina), replacing the aging infrastructure that had reached the end of its usable life.

The project also includes the construction of purpose-built welfare buildings, which will offer toilets, showers, laundry and other essential services for boat owners and visiting crews.

The £2million renovation has been funded and delivered by Associated British Ports (APB).

A spokesman for ABP said: “ABP is incredibly excited to be delivering this transformative project at Ipswich Beacon Marina.

“These upgrades not only enhance the facilities for berth holders and visitors to Ipswich Beacon Marina, but also reaffirm our long-term commitment to the town’s waterfront.

“By investing in modern infrastructure and celebrating Ipswich’s maritime heritage, we’re helping to shape a vibrant, accessible and sustainable future for the Waterfront and the wider community.”

ABP provided an update on the works and thanked the community for their patience and support while work continues.

The spokesman added: “As part of ABP’s ongoing investment in upgrading the marina at Ipswich Waterfront, the pontoons currently visible in the Wet Dock are those that will be permanently installed later this summer.

“For health and safety reasons, these have been temporarily fixed to an existing pile in the water to free up space on the quayside while we prepare for the next phase of works.

“These pontoons are currently secured in a temporary position and are not yet in their final configuration. Further installation work is required before they can be fully operational.

“We anticipate that this work will be completed by the end of the summer, at which point we look forward to welcoming boats back to that side of the dock.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and support as we continue to enhance the facilities at Ipswich Beacon Marina.”
