Local chartered engineer recognised for his work on a superstructure

Chartered Structural Engineer, Simon Howes, has received a ‘Commendation Award for Structural Excellence’ for the role he played in the construction of the new Health and Wellbeing Building on the University of Suffolk campus in Ipswich.

Simon, who works at structural engineering and design business, Superstructures, based in Queen Street in Ipswich, was recognised by the East Anglia Regional Group of The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) for his contribution to the scheme as the lead designer.

Simon is pictured receiving his commendation from the President of IStructE, Jane Entwistle.

The judges made particular mention of how Simon’s “efficient structural design and attention to detail ensured that an aesthetically impressive feature lift tower could be provided as part of upgrading works to an existing campus building.

As well as Superstructures, the project team for the £13m scheme, previously known as the East Building, comprised several Ipswich businesses including Barnes Construction, KLH Architects, Castons and JSH.
