Construction workers from across Suffolk swapped their high-vis for polo shirts at a golfing fundraiser that raised thousands for a local women’s charity.

Ipswich-based structural and civil engineering firm Superstructures hosted its sixth annual golf day at Fynn Valley Golf Club in July, with 92 players taking to the green at the sell-out event.

Together they raised £2,939.30 for Talitha Koum, a charity providing supported housing and opportunities for women who are vulnerable.

Mark Hayward, Director of Superstructures, said he was ‘delighted’ with the turnout.

He added: “We have been pleased to support Talitha Koum for the last six years, and have hosted an annual golf day each year, only missing 2020 due to the pandemic.

“It’s a great opportunity to get the local business community together, while at the same time raising much-needed funds for such a worthy cause.”

Golfers involved at this year’s event included representatives from local firms Wincer Kievenaar, Castons Artelia and Barnes Construction.

This year’s fundraising efforts mean the total amount Superstructures has raised for Talitha Koum now stands at more than £14,500.

The charity is now undergoing a major expansion at its Hope Centre in Witnesham, which provides sheltered accommodation and sheltered support to women in need.

Tina Prince, Service Manager at Talitha Koum, said: “We are delighted and extremely grateful to Superstructures and the golfing competitors, who have attended these annual golf days, raising much-needed funds for our charity.

“When a resident first moves in with us, often they come to us with very little and do not have any form of financial support.

“Our development plans for The Hope Centre are still in progress and, at the moment, all 11 of our rooms remain fully occupied and we are still receiving new referrals every week.

“Once the building work has been completed, we are looking forward to being able to help an additional five women at a time.”
