Construction has started on 45 new homes in a Cambridgeshire village – including 32 registered for affordable renting.

Work has begun at Wyatt Court in Wimblington, a development from Bromford Flagship LiveWest (BFL), the UK’s largest provider of new affordable homes.

Of the homes, 32 will be on the local housing register at affordable rent, with 13 sold as shared ownership.

The development includes 12 three-bedroom and three four-bedroom homes, offering housing for growing families.

Tony Tann, Managing Director of Flagship Homes, part of BFL, said: “There’s real demand for affordable family housing in this part of Cambridgeshire, and that’s why we’re building Wyatt Court.

“I’m pleased about the size of the homes we’re delivering in a village where a lot of families want to live. The project means new homes for people who need them, and more life in a community that already has a lot going for it.”

The scheme takes its name from Thomas Henry Wyatt, the Victorian architect behind St Peter’s Church, a Grade II-listed landmark that has stood at the heart of village life since 1874.

The main contractor on the development is East Anglia-based housebuilder Seagate Homes.

Adam Murfet, Managing Director of Seagate Homes, said: “We’re proud to be working with BFL to deliver these much-needed affordable homes at Wyatt Court in Wimblington.

“As an East Anglia-based housebuilder, it’s important to us that we help create high-quality homes that meet the needs of local communities.

“This development will provide a mix of family homes and affordable ownership opportunities, helping more people to put down roots in a village with a strong sense of community.

“We look forward to progressing the build and seeing the positive impact the scheme will have for local residents.”

The first homes are expected to be ready by January 2027 and the full development complete by the summer.

Wyatt Court is part-funded by Homes England through the Affordable Homes Programme.
