A new Costco store is set to be built in Norwich, the American wholesale giant has confirmed.
Construction is due to begin shortly on the new 13,300sqm store at Broadland Business Park – with local business R G Carter appointed as contractor.
The site will house the store – referred to as a ‘warehouse’ – and a new two-level car park with more than 600 spaces. A petrol station is also planned to be built on nearby land.
It will be the first Costco store in East Anglia.

Alex Mackay, Director and General Manager at R G Carter, said: “As a business with strong local roots, we are pleased to be delivering this project in Norfolk.
“Our experience in the region and in the retail sector will support the efficient delivery of the scheme, and we look forward to working alongside Costco to create a high-quality warehouse environment for local businesses and members.”
The US-based warehouse club operator runs more than 800 warehouses worldwide and primarily serves the small and medium-sized business community.
The Norwich store is set to house groceries, electricals, clothing and homeware alongside a bakery, butchery and food court.
It is expected to create a minimum of 160 permanent jobs upon opening.

Paul Landen, Construction Director – Europe, Costco Wholesale UK Ltd, said: “We are pleased to be commencing construction on our first warehouse in East Anglia.
“The site at Broadland Business Park offers excellent access for our members and supports our continued expansion in the UK.
“We are also committed to working with experienced local partners wherever possible, and R G Carter’s strong presence in the region reflects that approach.”
Plans for the store were first submitted to Broadland District Council in October 2024 and were approved in December 2025.
Construction is expected to be completed in Spring 2027.
