A long-running Ipswich chartered surveyors has promoted four staff members of staff to associate.

Castons, which was established more than 130 years ago, has promoted Adam Fuller, Shah Hussain, Brad Hines and Mark Smith in recognition of their hard work and dedication to the business.

Adam has been at the company for ten years, having kickstarted his career on the firm’s trainee scheme.

Highlights of his career at Castons so far include winning the SJCC Nick Fayers Rising Star Award in 2023.

He said: “Much of my work currently centers around healthcare, mainly at West Suffolk & Newmarket Hospital, although I am keen to promote the firm’s commercial abilities, having previously been involved in automotive retail projects myself.

“I am also working on significant projects for hospice charities in the area, including the St Elizabeth Hospice and St Helena Hospice.”

Shah has been with the company since 2020 and joined as a graduate. Before joining Castons, he worked for a multi-disciplinary practice in London working with local councils delivering housing projects.

Since joining Castons, he has been delivering various types of healthcare projects from diagnostic centers to critical infrastructure upgrades in the London area.

Shah is now engaged closely with multiple London trusts delivering their capital and backlog programmes.

He said it was an amazing feeling seeing these projects come to life.

He added: “When you go back to sites and get to see these centers and upgrades in use, it’s great.”

Brad joined Castons in 2012, starting as a trainee straight out of sixth form.

After seven years at the company, he left to work for a QS practice in London for a year gaining valuable experience across different sectors and contract types such as NEC. During this time, he also worked within a multidisciplinary design consultancy and achieved MRICS QS status.

Brad returned to Castons in 2021 and has since been focused on project managing multiple healthcare projects such as diagnostic centers and urgent treatment centers.

He said: “There’s a brilliant team atmosphere at Castons along with real autonomy to run projects and deliver the best possible service for our clients.”

Brad and Adam both act as mentors and RICS counsellors at Castons, helping trainees achieve their MRICS.

Brad added: “It’s something we are both very passionate about. Between Adam and I, we offer guidance, run workshops for them, hold Q&A sessions and mock interviews. We currently have five APC candidates looking to sit within the next year.”

Mark has been at Castons for over three years but has been in the industry since 1989.

He said it has been exciting to be involved in more healthcare projects since joining the firm.

“I hadn’t done any healthcare work before working at Castons and have now been involved in several major schemes.

“I have been doing other interesting projects too, such as the biblical studies library at Tyndale House in Cambridge. There’s always something new to learn.”

Director Tim Tompkins said: “We are delighted to promote Adam, Shah, Brad and Mark to associate, they have all excelled since joining Castons.

“Each one of them has shown their ability and dedication to their work, making a big impact in the company.”

Castons was established in 1895 and is now part of the Artelia Group.
