Global superstar Ed Sheeran is set to fund the construction of a new ‘castle-like’ youth hub in his Suffolk hometown, a new planning application has revealed.
Plans for the new Framlingham Family Centre in Badingham Road were submitted to East Suffolk Council in May.
The plans intend to alter and extend an existing clubhouse at Framlingham Sports Club alongside delivering the construction of the new single-storey community centre and a separate gymnasium.
The plans have been submitted on behalf of the Framlingham Foundation Trust, a charity set up by Ed Sheeran in 2016.
It is understood the centre will fill a gap in services provided by the Thomas Mills Youth Hub, which has ceased operations.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application reads: “The new building will be a multi-functional facility for children aged 0-18 years, for a variety of recreational activities.
“Without the introduction of this centre there would be no long-term child and youth provision being offered within Framlingham.”
The building would feature a variety of facilities for children and young people, including a performance space, art studio, cookery room, library, early years room and both rehearsal and chill-out spaces.
It would be finished with long format brickwork alongside vertical timber boarding – with the statement adding it would have a “protective, secure and almost ‘castle’ feel”.
A determination deadline for the application has been set for July 9.
