A new state-of-the-art nursery in Essex has welcomed its first cohort of children.
Channels Nursery in Chelmsford, which is operated by Seymour House, provides 72 places for children in the area, with dedicated classrooms, staff facilities and a first-floor play terrace overlooking a landscaped play area.
The building was designed by Suffolk architects Wincer Kievenaar, with Manningtree-based Rose Builders bringing the project to life with support from Frith Blake and P11 Consultants.
The nursery was designed to support children’s development and includes a range of educational resources and activities in its classrooms and outdoor areas.
Construction on the new nursery began in September 2024.

Steven Swaby, Senior Architect at Wincer Kievenaar, said teamwork was paramount to the success of the project.
“Channels Day Nursery is the product of exceptional teamwork,” he said.
“Designed by Wincer Kievenaar for Seymour House, constructed by Rose Builders and supported by P11, Johns Slater and Haward and Frith Blake, a warm and nurturing environment has been created where children in Chelmsford can learn, play and thrive.
“It’s a project that reflects what can be achieved when committed teams come together with a shared purpose.”

The building has been designed with integrated shading to protect children from both sun and rain, featuring enhanced thermal efficiency and a large photovoltaic array to support long-term sustainability.
Reflecting its strong environmental performance, the nursery achieved a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating.
Channels Nursery is one of five Seymour House nurseries in Chelmsford.
