Now in its 23rd year, Mental Health Awareness Week ran from Monday 15th May to Sunday 21st May and Lovell marked the awareness week with events for its team.
This year’s theme was anxiety and Lovell arranged a planting session at its Southend Road site at Hunstanton to create a stunning garden to relax and unwind in. Team members and subcontractors were encouraged to get involved and contributed compost, lavender and other plants. Plans for the garden include tyre planters, a variety of potted plants in the courtyard, benches and an area filled with lavender to encourage pollination.
Lovell also provided treats to its active sites across Norfolk and Suffolk, including in Acle, Hopton on Sea and Stradbroke, and set aside time for the team to sit together to enjoy them.
Plus, on Thursday 18th May, the Lovell office at Broadland Business Park hosted a bake off event to crown the best Lovell baker, with all donations going to Lighthouse Club – The Construction Industry Charity.
Holly Baker, health & safety adviser at Lovell, comments: “The wellbeing and welfare of all of our team is our top priority and, with the right training, support and culture, we hope to support everyone at Lovell so they know there are people to support them because mental health can affect anyone. We have had ‘quiet rooms’ across our sites for many years, places where everyone on site can go to have some space, as well as mental health first aiders and FIR (fairness, inclusion and respect) ambassadors, to provide support and talk to anyone from the team when needed. Being outdoors and being in nature can really help, and we know how much the site teams enjoy having gardens and allotments where they can plant things and relax. The Lighthouse Club provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families, so we wanted to support them with our bake off.”
