Tradespeople from across Cambridgeshire and the wider East of England are being called on to support the family of a four-year-old boy living with an aggressive form of cancer.
Henry Sargent, from Ely, was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma in June this year – requiring intensive chemotherapy every three weeks.
Although he is now well enough to be discharged from hospital, Henry, his parents and his three siblings have been forced to stay with grandparents due to stalled construction work at their home.
Henry’s dad, Robert, had been leading on the extension although had to stop to provide care for Henry following his diagnosis.
Changes in temperature can affect Henry’s severely compromised immune system – meaning the house in its current state is not deemed safe for him to live in.
Construction charity Band of Builders is now calling on tradespeople to lend a hand and help create a safe and suitable home environment for Henry and his family.
Kelly Taylor, Operations Coordinator & Safeguarding Lead at Band of Builders, said: “We need most trades for this project.
“Substantial progress has already been made on the extension, with the structure complete and first-fix electrical and plumbing works largely installed.
“However, the remaining work is predominantly labour-intensive and includes insulating and plaster boarding ceilings, battening and dot and dab to walls, plastering, window installation, fitting the new kitchen, together with general completion works to make the extension habitable.
“Given Henry’s ongoing treatment, it is important to create a safe and suitable home environment for him and his family as soon as possible.”
Trades needed include electricians, plumbers, carpenters, kitchen fitters and painters and decorators.
