Steel signing marks significant milestone for new Hanslope Primary School development

Pupils and staff at a Hanslope Primary School, Milton Keynes, have celebrated a significant milestone in the journey towards the opening of their new school extension.

The brand-new school extension at Hanslope Primary School will house 12 new classrooms along with associated group rooms, office space and facilities, as well as an all-weather sports pitch and an increased parking area.

Representatives from construction firm R G Carter and Milton Keynes Council joined the students and staff as they signed their names on a steel brace that will form part of the new school building. After donning hard hats and sturdy footwear, the children were able to go on site and see some of the features of their new school building first-hand.

Ryan Brown, Headteacher at the school said: “After looking around the site, we are all really excited about moving into the new part of our school, as soon as possible.”

The steel signing marked an important stage in the progress of the new school as it reaches the first fix point of the development. Ken Woodhall, Commercial Manger at R G Carter, said: “With our ongoing presence on the school grounds, we wanted to create a fun activity to get the children involved and make them feel part of the team. Progress is going extremely well, and our focus is currently on making the building watertight so we can complete the internal works.”

The development is set to take the number of places available at Hanslope Primary School from 270 to 480. By 2026, it is expected that the population of Milton Keynes will have risen by 40,000 to almost 300,000. Milton Keynes Council is committed to ensuring that there is a good school place ready for every child.

Work on the new extension is due to be completed in Spring 2022. The project has been procured via the PAGABO Framework.
