A long-serving Suffolk construction manager has celebrated his 10th year working at a regional housebuilder.
James Wells, from Bucklesham, first joined Chelmsford-based Barratt and David Wilson Homes as an assistant site manager and has risen through the ranks ever since.
Now 43, the former renewable energy specialist has won multiple industry awards, including NHBC Pride in the Job Awards and being named Site Manager of the Year for his division.
Reflecting on his career to date, he said: “Before joining Barratt and David Wilson Homes, I was working in renewable energy and looking for a change.
“A family friend recommended Barratt and David Wilson Homes, and after looking at the website, I applied as an assistant site manager – and that’s where it all started.
“I’ve always been attracted to working for a national company where I could progress.
“The training and support I’ve received have helped me develop as a Construction professional, and I’ve been fortunate to work with like-minded teams who are always striving to get it right first time.
“I feel proud of what I’ve achieved over the past decade. Barratt and David Wilson Homes has supported me with promotions, professional courses including NVQ Level 4 and Level 6, and even during challenging times such as the pandemic, the company ensured I was looked after and kept informed.”
James added he remains focused on mentoring the next generation of site managers, saying he would recommend the housebuilding industry for anyone looking for a change in careers.
He said: “Go for it – you will not regret it. It’s [Barratt and David Wilson Homes] a great company to work for, and I haven’t looked back since starting.”
