An artist’s impression has shown a first glimpse of how hundreds of new homes could look on the site of a former mustard factory in Norfolk.
Norwich City Council and Homes England have unveiled the image as the local authority looks to launch a public consultation on its vision for the former Colman’s mustard factory at Carrow Sites.
The condiment colossus was based in the city for more than 160 years before the factory closed in 2020. The 17 hectare site was subsequently purchased by Homes England in March this year.
The first phase of redevelopment would see up to 300 homes built along the riverside as part of the wider vision for the East Norwich Regeneration Area – which has been earmarked to deliver more than 3,500 homes.
Jayshree Patel, Head of Planning and Enabling from Homes England, said: “We are working in partnership with Norwich City Council to prepare these exciting proposals to sensitively regenerate Carrow Sites.
“Our approach will celebrate the area’s heritage while building new homes local people need. The engagement events are about explaining our emerging proposals and listening.
“We want to hear from the local community about what matters most to them and how any future proposals could respond positively to local priorities.”
Plans for the first phase will be shown to residents at upcoming engagement events at Carrow Road stadium and Chantry Place in early October, while a dedicated stall will also open at Norwich Market.

“We want Carrow Sites to be the first step in realising our long-term vision to regenerate the whole of East Norwich and make it an exemplar of waterside living.”
