Rose and Eastlight Community Homes opened the gates to their Whatfield Road construction site in Elmsett last week to a group of enthusiastic future builders.

Pupils and staff from Elmsett Church of England Primary School enjoyed an educational visit to the site, with the aim of inspiring more young people to enter the sector.

Pupils were given an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the construction process of 18 urgently-needed affordable homes in the area, learning firsthand how today’s homes are being built with future generations and the environment in mind.

“This initiative is about more than just showcasing a building site,” said Alan Bridgman from Rose.

“It’s about planting seeds of inspiration, helping young people see the incredible opportunities in construction, and showing how we’re building sustainable communities for the future.”

Pupils had a jam-packed day – from site tours led by experienced construction professionals to exciting hands-on activities – all aimed at sparking interest in the construction industry and encouraging young minds to dream big about the careers they could build.

The visit ended on a high note with Rose goody bags, which proved to be a huge hit among the pupils.

Following the visit, children from the primary school wrote to the company, expressing their thanks for the site tour.

Elmsett pupil Elsie Rose said: “Thank you for our lovely day at the building site.

“I liked looking around the houses. I might even move into one when I’m old enough.”

The Whatfield Road development comes as Eastlight continues to reinvest every pound into creating high-quality, affordable homes across the East of England.

By inviting the next generation onto active sites, Rose and Eastlight look to champion not only community engagement but also STEM education and career inspiration at a critical age.
