A Norwich City legend joined a team of construction, driving and industrial recruitment specialists in a 150-mile charity walk around Norfolk.
Grant Holt and a host of fundraisers joined the team from East Anglia-based ARC Group on the 60-hour walk around the county, starting from Kings Lynn and ending at Carrow Road stadium on Friday, April 18.
The challenge has so far raised more than £22,311.98 (with an additional £2,938.76 Gift Aid) for two local charities, Norwich Community Sports Foundation (CSF) and The Big C Cancer Charity.
Founded in Norwich in 2008, ARC Group specialises in recruitment services in a range of sectors – notably construction, mechanical & electrical, maintenance and recycling.
ARC directors Adam and Darren Miller said they were inspired to raise money for the charities in memory of their father, who received support from The Big C in his final days.
Adam, who worked alongside the former Norwich number nine to organise the event, said: “Raising such an incredible amount of money for two amazing charities is absolutely fantastic.
“This is the third charity walk we’ve done together – the first being just 56 miles, then 100. It’s fair to say the extra 50 this time around definitely made it tougher!
“A huge thank you to everyone who has donated – your money will make a huge difference to the lives of people across our county.”
Grant added: “I’ve taken on some incredible walks in my life – whether that’s every time I’ve walked down the tunnel at Carrow Road to walking my wife down the aisle.
“To walk around our beautiful home county with a team of people passionate about transforming lives, while raising money for two amazing causes, is brilliant. Thank you to everyone who joined us.”
Fundraisers were also able to join in on the walk virtually, taking part in the challenge elsewhere in their own time.
The funds raised will go towards the CSF’s work in improving lives through sport and The Big C’s in supporting people across Norfolk affected by cancer.
In a joint statement, Tom Holmes, Events and Engagement Manager at Big C and Emma Fletcher-Dungay, the CSF’s Head of Fundraising, said: “This partnership between the Community Sports Foundation and Big C highlights the power of teamwork, raising vital funds to transform lives through sport and provide essential care and support for those affected by cancer.”
