Next week’s Ipswich Borough Council Planning Committee will consider an application from Handford Homes and Barefoot & Gilles architects to develop the site of the former Hope Church on Fore Hamlet into new Council housing.
Handford Homes, the Council’s house building arm welcomed the officer recommendation for approval. The scheme is for 30 flats – 11 one bedroom, 7 two bedroom and 2 two bedroom flats all of which are either wheelchair accessible or can easily be adapted to be so.
Work has recently begun to demolish the former Orwell Centre that used to be home to the Hope Church which has moved to St Helen’s Street. If planning consent is granted, then it’s expected that these new flats will be ready for occupation by Council tenants in 2024.
Colin Kreidewolf, Chair of Handford Homes said, “This is a well-designed scheme. If planning consent is achieved, we’ll be able to start construction next year with a view to handing the much-needed new homes to Ipswich Borough Council in 2024.”
