A Norfolk football club’s plans to build a brand new stadium and return to its former home after more than 40 years have been approved by councillors.
Gorleston FC were granted planning permission for the £4million stadium by Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s Planning Committee on September 9.
The new ground will be built on the Recreation Ground, in Church Lane, and will include a full-sized, all-weather pitch with changing facilities, floodlights and a clubhouse.
The club has been homeless since 2022, after they found they could no longer use their ground at Emerard Park, which was later turned into housing.
They currently play at Wellesley Stadium in Great Yarmouth, but were keen to return to the Recreation Ground, where they last played in 1982.
The new stadium is expected to have a capacity of around 1,300 people.

“This is a huge milestone for Gorleston FC CIC and the wider community, bringing us one step closer to creating a fantastic new facility that will support football, sport, health, wellbeing and community activities for people of all ages.
“The Community Hub will provide new opportunities for players, families, local residents and community organisations, helping make Gorleston FC CIC an even stronger hub at the heart of our community.
