A construction charity quiz celebrating its 30th anniversary has raised almost £15,000 for three East Anglian charities.

Morgan Sindall Construction’s Egghead Quiz took place at the Grand Hall in Ipswich on Tuesday October 21, putting teams of five to the test.

The quiz was first held in 1995, and has since become a mainstay of the East Anglian business calendar.

This year’s winners were the team from KMC Transport, based in Cambridge, who were presented with the original trophy made in Morgan Sindall’s (former Amec) workshop in Ipswich three decades ago.

Warren Salmons, Senior Business Development Manager at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “The Egghead Quiz has become a much-loved annual tradition, raising thousands of pounds for charity every year.

“The quiz had lost its way for a while and stopped running for a few years, but when our Managing Director, Peter Whitmore, returned to the business, he insisted we bring it back.

“In the five years of this modern era, we’ve raised nearly £60,000 for good causes across the region – a fantastic achievement that reflects the generosity, energy and community spirit of everyone involved.

“It’s always a highlight of the year and something everyone looks forward to.

“This year’s quiz has been as popular as ever and we are delighted by the grand total raised for three terrific East Anglian charities.”

The £14,860 raised will be split between East Anglian Air Ambulance, the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund.

The evening included live music from How’s the J Mann, a raffle and a variety of dishes prepared by Suffolk New College students.

Mr Salmons added: “We would like to thank all the teams for putting their general knowledge to the test, along with all the businesses who kindly sponsored the event.”
