Latest coronavirus advice for the construction sector

The Association for Consultancy & Engineering, Build UK, Chartered Institute of Building, CITB, Civil Engineering Contractors Association, Construction Products Association, Federation of Master Builders, and Institution of Civil Engineers have issued this joint briefing to share consistent guidance.

Site operating procedures

The Cabinet Office confirms construction in England can continue IF it can be done safely and in according with Public Health England (PHE) guidance. The Construction Leadership Council aligns with PHE guidance.

If any companies cannot comply with this guidance, then they must stop the activity immediately until they can.

NHS hospitals

Staff have requested the following supplies from the construction industry:

  • FFP3 masks
  • Full-face visors (transparent and either disposable of reusable)
  • Safety goggles and glasses
  • Hand santiser
  • Hazmat/full body suits

If you are able to help with any of these, please contact any of the organisations in the first paragraph and they shall liaise on your behalf.

Corporate Financing Facility

The Bank of England will buy short-term debt from larger companies, under the COVID-19 Corporate Financing Facility. The scheme is now open for applications, and more information is available from the Bank of England.

Apprentice support from CITB

CITB is paying apprenticeship attendance grants for second and third-year apprentices to help keep skills in the construction industry.
