The general manager and members of the construction team have gathered together at London Biggin Hill Airport, to see first-hand how building work is progressing on its new on-site, 4-star boutique hotel, The Landing.

When completed at the end of 2022, the 56-bedroom hotel, which is being built by Suffolk based, Barnes Construction, will have a fitness suite, as well as a beautiful lounge, bar and restaurant that will overlook the runway from the first floor, offering fabulous views.

The Landing is primarily intended for crew who frequently fly in and out of the airport, as well as engineers and other employees of the numerous resident aerospace businesses based at the airport.

Project managed by Russell Doughty, designed by architects, Powell Dobson, with Superstructures – who has offices in Ipswich and Cambridge, providing structural engineering expertise, The Landing will be built to a high specification, 4-star standard. It will also include very specific acoustic requirements due to its location at the end of the runway.

Steven Thorne-Farrar, general manager of The Landing says: “It is great to see that building work is progressing well. This development will play an important role within the airport’s ecosystem and is a fantastic addition to the many facilities and services already offered at Biggin Hill. Moreover, the hotel will support the community by providing further employment and training opportunities, as well as attracting new business investment to the region.”

Bob Steward, joint managing director for Barnes Construction adds: “We are delighted to have been appointed to carry out the construction of this flagship hotel for London Biggin Hill Airport. We are very experienced in building hotels, but The Landing is quite unique due to its position directly at the end of the runway, which is making it a very interesting and challenging place to work.”
