A Lovell Construction Manager from Southery in South West Norfolk has won a Gold medal at this years’ Construction Manager of the Year Awards (CMYA).

Michael Saunders has won Gold in the ‘Residential Under 10 Storeys’ category and has set the bar high by completing his project with commendable innovation.

Based in King’s Lynn, Michael first joined Lovell in September 2001 as a Site Manager. In 2004 he was promoted to Contract Manager, before progressing to Construction Manager in 2007.

The CMYA celebrate the achievements of those who inspire, lead and enable the very best delivery of a project, and produce buildings that have a positive impact on those who use them.

The awards have been running for over 40 years, and this year were held virtually. They showcase the incredible talent of Construction Managers across the UK every year and as a result, have a reputation for identifying the future leaders in the construction industry.

Michael, who has lived in Norfolk his entire life, said: “I’m delighted to have been awarded a Gold medal at this year’s Construction Manager of the Year Awards. It’s a huge moment for my career and I’d like to thank the entire team at Lovell and particularly the team involved with the Orchard Place development for supporting me in my role.

“Lots of work went into the application to get through to the first stages, which was then followed up by a Skype interview back in June where I had to present to a panel of judges. I was thrilled to have heard that I’d been selected as one of the final seven nominees in my category and it was an immensely proud moment on the night when my name was read out as the Gold medal winner.

“My goals for the future are to continue and expand the successful partnership with the Borough Council, whilst helping the Lovell business achieve its regional goals. I’m also looking forward to celebrating 20 years with Lovell in 2021.”

Commenting on the award, Lovell’s regional managing director, Simon Medler said: “We are thrilled that Michael has won a Gold medal in this year’s CMYA awards. I’d like to thank Michael for all his hard work and dedication to Lovell, and I’m very proud to see that his accomplishments have been recognised. At Lovell it’s our people who really make the difference – they bring innovation, commitment and expertise to everything they do.”
