Work is set to start next month on the £15.2million regeneration of St Botolph’s Circus in Colchester.
Jackson Civil Engineering, which was appointed by Essex County Council to deliver the project, is hosting a drop-in event for residents in August, marking the start of major works on the roundabout.
Representatives from Jackson will be on hand to explain how the project will progress, including how traffic will be managed during construction.
The company has been carrying out enabling works in recent weeks, including site surveys and the establishment of a site compound and office facilities.
Tim Honeyball, Project Manager at Jackson, said: “We are pleased to be delivering this important project for Colchester.
“It will not only regenerate this important part of the city but will also improve safety and accessibility for people using the junction, particularly those travelling from the south of the city centre.
“We appreciate the need to keep traffic moving and we are coordinating our works with the nearby East Hill project.
“Our aim is to maintain two lanes of traffic during peak times around the roundabout.
“The team will be reviewing how traffic is flowing to ensure the works are delivered as safely and efficiently as possible.”
Team Colchester – a joint initiative between Essex County Council and Colchester City Council – is overseeing the St Botolph’s Circus regeneration as part of £19.6million awarded to the city in 2023 through the Levelling Up Fund.
Works at St Botolph’s Circus are expected to be completed in autumn 2027.
The scheme forms part of a wider programme of regeneration projects across the city, including the transformation of St Nicholas Square and the new Digital Forum.
It also includes the restoration of the ‘Jumbo’ water tower and the St Botolph’s Quarter development.
The public drop-in event will take place at St Botolph’s Church, in St Botolph’s Street, on August 6 from 2.30pm to 6.30pm.
