R G Carter invited project partners and guests to celebrate the first major milestone in the construction of the new Sir Bobby Robson School in Ipswich.

A ceremony was held to mark the first installation of the timber panels that were lifted into place as part of the main structure for the new social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) school.

The newly appointed headteacher of Sir Bobby Robson School, Adam Dabin, joined representatives from local construction firm R G Carter, Concertus Design & Property Consultants and other stakeholders to celebrate the early stages of this exciting new educational facility.

The development, situated on Lindbergh Road, will provide over 60 students aged 8-16 years with a dedicated teaching space to support young people with SEMH / ASD specialism,  helping them to prepare for adult life and make a positive contribution to the local community.

The new school will include 15 classrooms, soft play and sensory areas, a new multi-purpose hall, staff and parent facilities as well as a kitchen and dining space.

The installation of the timber panels as part of the main structure follows the successful completion of the groundworks towards the end of last year.  James Wilson, Director at R G Carter, said:

“We are delighted to be working on this much-needed facility for the local community and what better way to start the year than celebrating this significant milestone. Our focus now is finalising the timber frame with brickwork before work commences on the roof in preparation for handing over the school later this year.”

The Sir Bobby Robson School is a much-needed educational facility in Ipswich and it is very exciting to see it come to life before our eyes.”

Construction is expected to be completed in Summer 2020 ready for the academic year.
